The Future at Westbound Kennels starts with top Quality dogs!
The Future at Westbound Kennels is bright. 10 years ago we sold our company and we are very lucky to have been able to dedicate our life to the German Shepherd Dog. I have owned and worked with German Shepherds for thirty six years. I do believe in the total dog. What is the total dog? I started in obedience and have been showing conformation dogs. The selection of dogs we own at this point are top quality phyically and mentally. The total dog has both brains and sound physical qualities. A famous German breeder once stated that any good handler can make a moderate looking dog look good. This statement really got me thinking. I have had a total dog in my head after all these years. A good American dog can work as good as a German line dog it's all in the total dog (good handler). I feel some German dogs along with some American dogs are to extreme in structure & mind to be what I call a total dog. We've surrounded are self's with great people and great dogs because you never stop learning. As you go through the website you will see the Standard AKC calls for on our American dogs. When we walk into the conformation ring we are hoping are dogs meet this standard in the judges eye. I show dogs for the pure joy of it all.
WHY TITLE A DOG
Not just a brag, not a stepping stone to a higher title, not just an adjective to competitive scores, a title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honor the dog, an ultimate memorial. It will remain in record and in memory for as long as anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that regard.
And though the dog itself doesn't know or care that's it's achievements have been noted, a title says many things in the world of humans, where such things count.
A title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time with it because it was a good dog, that you believed in it enough to give it yet another chance when it failed, and that, your faith was justified.
A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few; that in a world of disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved, and loved greatly in return.
And when that dear short life is over, the title remains as a memorial of the finest kind, the best you can give to a deserving friend, volumes of pride in one set of initials before or after the name
A title earned is nothing less than love and respect, given and received and permanently recorded. Sandra Mowery
